Youths, nowadays, keep on increasing their vices. As if they feel great clipping a cigarrette between their two fingers and another on top of an ear! Seeing smoke coming out so "swabe" from their mouth looks as if the person is a problem free, HAKUNA MATATA. And who is mostly concerned?
We interviewed five youths who are engaged in smoking. We asked them five questions: 1. What is your age when you started smoking? Why?; 2. What is the effect of smoking to you? Why are you still continuing it?; 3. From where do you get yor money for your cigarette?; 4. Do your parents know it? What were their reactions?; 5. Can you quit smoking? If yes, how will it help you?
RESULTS OF THE INTERVIEW
According to the first person whom we interviewed, he started at 15 because of his problem about his peers. When he doesn't smoke, he experiences headaches. He gets his money from his parents and sometimes from his pocket. His parents know nothing about it because he hides it from them. He doesn't know if he can stop it.
The second person interviewee says he started it at the age of 14 because of curiousity. Its effect is he was removed from the list of the honor rolls. It is difficult for him to stop it. He gets his money from his parents. His parents know nothing about it because he hid it from them. He can stop smoking and if he will, he will become more active in school.
According to the third person, he started at the age of 15 because of the influence of his barkada. It has no effect to him. He gets his money from his allowance given by his parents. His parents don't know it because he pretend that he is not smoking. He can stop it and if he will do it, he can concentrate more on his studies.
The fourth person says that he started smoking at the age of 13 because of depression and the influence of his peers. Since he is an athlete, his speed in running decreased. For example, if he can run 100 meters per minute before, now he can only run 50 meters per minute. At first, he stopped but he continued it because he became depressed again. He gets his money from his mother. His parents know it so sometimes they give him guidance. He can stop it.
The fifth person we interviewed started at the age of 15 because of his peers. He gets tired easily when he started smoking and it is difficult for him to stop it.When his parents discovered it, their feelings were hurt. He gets his money from his salary from work.If he will be able to stop it, he will have a better and healthy life.
Based in our interview, youths smoke because of different reasons like the influence of peers, curiousity, depression and problems.
Most of them know the bad effects of smoking, but they still continue it because it becomes difficult for them to stop it as time goes by.
Based on our data, we made some solutions to lessen the problem of the smoking of youths. These are the following:
1. Extra-curricular activities. Students should be given or engaged more in extra-curricular activities like sports so that they will be distracted from vices.
2. Instead of buying cigarettes, youth should save or use their money for more productive things.
3. Parents should guide their children very well.
4. Youth should choose better peers so that they will not be influenced by smoking peers.

how about doing a follow up on your respondents, especially those who know that they can quit. try your best to stand on his own word. anyway, you have nothing to lose but much to gain. helping one to stop smoking is like winning the lottery and more.
Teenagers especially when the reach 15 do want nothing but to explore other things that can be done under the sun, don't they?
Some waste their money but maybe they enjoy wasting their money because they suffer if they don't smoke. Oh pity.. what can they do, that is life anyway. Get over it!
Others, maybe, can stop if they are really dedicated to stop. After the interview about their smoking habits, they are possibilities that they will think over what they said during the interview and reflect on it or they will realize their mistakes.
you make a nice blog....but i would like to suggest if you ask others opinions....
